Hello and welcome to my website. My name is Ryan. My connection to epilepsy is an intimate one. When I was fourteen my older brother was diagnosed with epilepsy after having several sudden seizures. It changed our family forever, but in the years since we have learned a lot and grown closer together.
Epilepsy has achieved a curious place in the public’s awareness. Most people know it is a disease that manifests itself in seizures, but few know how this happens, or what treatment is used. People with epilepsy are frequently seen as strange, weak, and unpredictable. Part of this is because of the lack of information available to the public. I would like this blog to be a place for people to learn about the disorder in a way that is easy to understand and digest.
I also want it to be a place of comfort for those who have recently had a family member or friend receive a diagnosis of epilepsy, or have received the diagnosis themselves. The first few days after the doctor says those words can be confusing. The information I present here is meant to provide a place to learn, re-learn, and process everything that goes along with a diagnosis of epilepsy.
